Overview
Slide Inspector (Beta)
Slide is an always-encrypted BCDR (business continuity and disaster recovery) platform built for MSPs — on-site "Slide Box" appliances protect endpoints and replicate verified snapshots to Slide Cloud. The Slide Inspector (Beta) connects to a single Slide account via API token, discovers each of your Customers (Slide Clients), and reports Slide Box health, backup agent status, backup and snapshot verification results, and open alerts back into Liongard — so a failed backup, a paused agent, or a deactivated appliance shows up the moment it happens, without logging into the Slide Console.
What you can monitor
The Slide Inspector collects appliance, agent, and backup-health data for each managed Customer, including:
- Slide Box appliance inventory and service status
- Backup agent inventory, backup schedule, and pause state
- Latest backup status and snapshot verification (boot, filesystem, service) per agent
- Open and recently-resolved Slide alerts
- Total protected storage and appliance warranty expiration
How it works
A parent launchpoint holds a single Slide API token and discovers every Customer (Slide Client) in the account. Liongard creates a child launchpoint for each Customer, mapped to its own Liongard Environment, so backup posture can be tracked independently per Customer.
Benefits
- Confirm every managed Customer's Slide Boxes are active and checking in.
- Catch failed, paused, or missed backups before a Customer needs a restore.
- Track snapshot verification so "backups exist" also means "backups are recoverable."
- Surface storage-critical and appliance-out-of-date alerts across the fleet.
- Track appliance warranty expirations as change events.
Inspector Setup Preparation
Prerequisites & Access RequirementsTo configure the Slide Inspector, ensure you have the following:
- An Account-level Slide user (Account Admin, or Read Only for least privilege) at console.slide.tech
- A Slide API token carries the role of whoever created it — it must be created by an Account-level user, not a Client-scoped one, or the inspector will only see one Customer
Step 1: Create the API Token in Slide
- Sign in to the Slide Console at console.slide.tech as an Account-level user.
- Open Settings and select the API section (labeled My Settings → API for some roles).
- Select Create a new API token, name it (e.g., "Liongard"), and select Create.
- Copy the token immediately — Slide displays it only once.
Inspector Setup:
Step 2: Configure the Slide Inspector in Liongard
- Log in to the Liongard platform.
- In Liongard, navigate to Admin > Inspectors > Inspector Types > Navigate to the Slide Inspector > Select Add System.
Since Slide is a multi-tenant system where a single account manages many Customers, you'll set up a single "Parent" Inspector that will then auto-discover a "Child" Inspector for each Customer.
Fill in the following information:
- Type of Inspector: Parent
- Environment: Select your MSP's Environment
- Friendly Name: Suggested Naming: [MSP Name] Slide Parent
- Agent: Select the On-Demand Agent
- Inspector Version: Latest
- Slide API Token: The token generated in the Slide Console under Settings → API
- Scheduling: The Inspector will default to run once a day at the time it's set up. Here you can adjust the schedule
- Select Save. The Inspector will now be triggered to run within the minute.
Step 3: Child Inspector Setup
After the first run of the Parent Inspector, each Customer (Slide Client) will be auto-discovered and surfaced in the Discovered Systems tab on the Inspectors > Slide Inspector page.
- Activate or Archive your Discovered Systems by ensuring they're mapped to the correct Environment > Check the checkbox to the left of Inspector(s) > Select the Actions drop-down menu > Activate Launchpoints (or Archive Launchpoints).
- Click Save.
Troubleshooting
- Only one Customer appears, or discovery is empty: The token was likely created by a Client-scoped user — recreate it as an Account-level user.
- 401 or "missing authentication": The token is missing, mistyped, or was revoked in the Console — recreate and re-enter it.
- Slow runs or transient failures on large fleets: Slide rate-limits to a 50-request pool refilled at 10/second — the inspector backs off and retries automatically.
Known V1 LimitationsRead-only monitoring — the inspector doesn't start backups, create restores, or change any Slide configuration. File-restore, image-export, virtualization, and DR-networking (VLAN/IPsec/WireGuard/port-forward) operations aren't surfaced. Slide doesn't offer webhooks, so collection is poll-based on the default frequency. No asset-inventory mappings ship with this inspector.
