Roar Designer (AI-Assisted Widget & Dashboard Builder)
Overview
Roar Designer is Liongard's AI-assisted way to build Visual Insights dashboards and widgets using natural language instead of manually configuring visuals or writing SQL.
Describe the dashboard or widget you want in plain language — for example, "make me a Windows workstation dashboard" — and Roar Designer generates a working result for you. Every widget it builds is backed by transparent, human-readable YAML that you can view, hand-edit, or copy into an outside AI tool for further customization.
Roar Designer complements, rather than replaces, the existing widget-building experience — you can still use the classic visual builder for point-and-click, no-code control, or use Roar Designer for a faster, AI-assisted, code-level path, whichever fits the task at hand.
Key Benefits
- No SQL Required: Lowers the technical bar for building custom, data-backed widgets — full technical customization is still available for partners who want it.
- Natural-Language Creation: Describe what you want in plain language and get a working widget or dashboard back.
- Reusable Query Datasets: Define a complex query once — like a specific join or calculation — and reference it from multiple widgets instead of rebuilding the same logic every time.
- A Path Off Outside BI Tools: Recreate dashboards you currently maintain in an outside BI tool using Visual Insights' own AI-assisted builder instead.
How It Works
From Reporting → Visual Insights → View all Dashboards, open an existing dashboard or create a new one and add a widget. Choosing Query Widget — rather than Classic Widget — is what surfaces the Roar Designer prompt field.
Describe the widget or dashboard you want in plain language, for example "show me all Windows workstations with outdated antivirus definitions" or "build a table widget showing Windows workstation hostname and operating system." Roar Designer generates a widget backed by a YAML definition and, if needed, a new or existing Query Dataset — a reusable object that defines a complex query once so it can be referenced by multiple widgets instead of rebuilding the same logic every time.
From there, you can continue the conversation with Roar Designer to adjust the widget, edit the generated YAML directly for fine-grained control, or copy the YAML into an external AI tool for further customization and paste the result back in. Save the widget to the dashboard once it looks right.
Known Limitations
Widget Type Split
Only Query Widgets support AI assistance. Classic Widgets — the existing visual, no-code builder — remain fully supported and unaffected, but AI editing isn't available on them. If Roar Designer detects a Classic Widget, it will point you to documentation rather than editing it directly.
Generation Speed
AI-driven widget generation can currently take a while to complete, and can occasionally time out on more complex requests. This is a known, active area of improvement rather than a permanent constraint.
Roar Designer Vs. Classic Widgets
- Both Roar Designer and the Classic Widget builder can produce fully custom dashboards and widgets — Roar Designer builds them from a natural-language description and backs them with editable YAML, while Classic Widgets are built visually, with no code required.
- Roar Designer doesn't replace Classic Widgets. Existing dashboards and Classic Widgets are unaffected, and no migration is required — the two paths coexist so partners can choose whichever fits the task.
