Overview
The Anthropic Inspector helps you monitor and manage your organization's Anthropic Console from within Liongard. As your organization adopts Claude-powered AI tools and services, the Anthropic Console becomes an important platform for managing users, API keys, workspaces, and AI usage. The inspector continuously inventories these resources and helps you identify configuration changes that could impact security, governance, or operational efficiency.
By collecting information about user access, administrative privileges, API keys, workspaces, and spending, the Anthropic Inspector provides a centralized view of your Anthropic environment. This visibility helps you detect configuration drift, identify stale or expiring API keys, monitor changes to administrative access, and better understand AI adoption and usage across your organization.
Whether you're validating security controls, supporting compliance initiatives, or simply maintaining operational awareness, the Anthropic Inspector gives you the insights you need to manage your Anthropic environment with confidence.
Inspector Setup Preparation
Generate an Admin API Key
The Anthropic Inspector requires an Admin API Key to access your Anthropic organization. This task must be completed by a user with an Admin, Owner, or Primary Owner role. Users with Developer or Billing roles cannot create Admin API keys.
Before You Begin
Ensure you have an Anthropic Organization.
Sign in to platform.claude.com using an account with Admin, Owner, or Primary Owner permissions.
Note: If you're using an individual Anthropic account, go to Settings → Organization and create or convert your account into an Organization. The Admin API is not available for individual accounts.
Create an Admin API Key
-
Sign in to platform.claude.com.
-
Navigate to Settings → API Keys.
-
Under the Admin Keys section, click Create key.
-
Enter a descriptive name, such as:
Liongard - Anthropic Console Inspector
-
Click Create.
-
Copy the API key immediately and store it securely.
Important: The secret is displayed only once. Be sure to save it before leaving the page.
The Admin API key begins with:
sk-ant-admin...Important: Standard API keys that begin with
sk-ant-api...are not supported. The Anthropic Inspector uses Admin API endpoints, which will reject standard API keys.
(Optional) Generate an Enterprise Analytics API Key
If your organization uses Claude Enterprise and you want the Anthropic Inspector to collect adoption, engagement, and enhanced usage and cost metrics, you can also generate an Enterprise Analytics API Key.
Without this key, the inspector will continue to collect all standard governance and configuration data. Only the Enterprise analytics metrics will be unavailable.
Create an Enterprise Analytics API Key
-
Navigate to claude.ai/analytics/api-keys.
-
Create a new API key.
-
Grant the following permission:
read:analytics
-
Save the generated key securely.
What This Enables
Providing an Enterprise Analytics API key allows the Anthropic Inspector to collect:
- User adoption metrics
- Engagement insights
- Enhanced AI usage reporting
- 30-day Enterprise usage and cost rollups
If you do not provide this key, the inspector will:
- Continue collecting users, roles, API keys, workspaces, and governance data
- Skip the Adoption tab
- Skip Enterprise-specific usage and cost analytics
