Visual Insights Granular Permissions
Visual Insights Pro User Access Management
Visual Insights Pro integrates with User Access Management (UAM) to provide role-based access control. As a Liongard administrator, you can manage who has full administrative access to Visual Insights Pro and who has read-only access directly from UAM.
Coming soon: We will rename the Dashboard Admin role to Visual Insights Admin
NOTE: This feature will still work with the Dashboard Admin role.
When you assign or remove the Visual Insights Admin role in Liongard, the user's role is automatically synchronized with Resplendent, the platform that powers Visual Insights Pro.
How Access Works
Visual Insights Pro supports two access levels:
| Role | Description |
|---|---|
| Visual Insights Admin | Full administrative access. Users can create and edit dashboards, manage datasets, configure dashboard groups, and view all dashboards. This role maps to the Admin role in Resplendent. |
| Visual Insights Member (Default) | Read-only access. Users can only view dashboards assigned to them through dashboard groups in Resplendent. This role maps to the Member role in Resplendent. |
Role Synchronization
Role synchronization occurs automatically whenever you save changes to a user's permissions in UAM.
Granting Admin Access
When you enable the Visual Insights Admin role and save the user, Liongard automatically updates the user's role to Admin in Resplendent.
Removing Admin Access
When you remove the Visual Insights Admin role and save the user, Liongard automatically changes the user's role to Member in Resplendent.
Dashboard Access for Members
Users with the Visual Insights Member role have read-only access and can only view dashboards assigned to them.
Dashboard visibility is managed using dashboard groups in the Resplendent user interface—not within Liongard.
To control which dashboards a Member can access:
- Create one or more dashboard groups in Resplendent.
- Assign dashboards to those groups.
- Add users to the appropriate dashboard groups.
Members can only view dashboards associated with the groups to which they belong.
Automatically Creating Visual Insights Users
If an eligible Liongard user has never accessed Visual Insights Pro, you do not need to create the account manually.
When the user selects View All Dashboards, Liongard automatically:
- Verifies the user's eligibility.
- Creates the user in Resplendent if necessary.
- Synchronizes their role.
- Redirects them to Visual Insights Pro.
A progress window appears while this process completes.
Manage Visual Insights Access
Grant Visual Insights Admin Access
Use this procedure to give a user full administrative control over Visual Insights Pro.
Prerequisites
The user must be a Manager of All Environments in Liongard.
Steps
- Navigate to Admin > Access Management.
- Select the user you want to modify.
- Enable Visual Insights Admin.
- Click Save.
The user's role is automatically synchronized to Admin in Resplendent.
The user can now:
- Create dashboards
- Edit dashboards
- Manage datasets
- Manage dashboard groups
- View all dashboards
Grant Read-Only Access
Use this procedure when you want a user to view dashboards without making changes.
Steps
- Navigate to Admin > Access Management.
- Select the user.
- Ensure Visual Insights Admin is not enabled.
- Click Save.
The user is assigned the Member role in Resplendent.
To control which dashboards they can view, assign them to one or more dashboard groups in Resplendent.
Restrict Access to Sensitive Dashboards
Dashboard groups allow you to limit visibility to specific dashboards.
This is useful for protecting information such as:
- Financial dashboards
- QuickBooks reporting
- PSA billing dashboards
- Internal operational metrics
- Executive-only reports
Recommended Approach
-
Assign Visual Insights Admin only to users who need administrative capabilities.
-
Leave all other users as Members.
-
In Resplendent:
- Create dashboard groups for each audience or department.
- Assign dashboards to those groups.
- Add users to the appropriate groups.
This ensures users only see the dashboards required for their role.
Best Practices
- Grant Visual Insights Admin only to users responsible for creating or managing dashboards.
- Use the default Member role for most users.
- Organize dashboards using dashboard groups rather than granting broader permissions.
- Regularly review administrative users to ensure they still require elevated access.
- Use dashboard groups to separate sensitive business data from general operational dashboards.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I assign dashboard permissions?
Dashboard permissions are managed in Resplendent using dashboard groups.
Can Members create or edit dashboards?
No. Members have read-only access and can only view dashboards assigned to their dashboard groups.
Do I need to manage roles in both Liongard and Resplendent?
No. Manage user roles in Liongard UAM. Liongard automatically synchronizes each user's role with Resplendent.
What happens if I remove the Visual Insights Admin role?
The user is automatically changed to the Member role in Resplendent and loses administrative privileges. Their dashboard visibility is determined by the dashboard groups they belong to.
