Password Policy
Password Requirements
Liongard follows the latest NIST 800-63B password guidance to help protect your account with modern, effective security practices. Instead of requiring complex character combinations, Liongard validates passwords against common password lists and known data breaches to reduce the risk of compromised credentials.
Traditional password complexity rules—such as requiring uppercase letters, numbers, and special characters—often lead to predictable passwords that are easier for attackers to guess.
Instead, Liongard uses modern password validation techniques that focus on preventing the use of weak or compromised passwords. This approach aligns with current NIST recommendations and provides stronger real-world protection.
Password Requirements
When you create or change your password, it must meet the following requirements:
| Requirement | Description |
|---|---|
| Minimum length | At least 8 characters |
| Not a common password | Checked against a curated list of more than 3,000 commonly used passwords, including Liongard-specific variations (for example, liongard123) |
| Not found in known data breaches | Validated against the Have I Been Pwned database of compromised passwords |
| Character complexity | No requirement for uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, or special characters |
Strong Password Tips
To create a password that's both secure and easy to remember:
- Use a password or passphrase with 12 or more characters whenever possible.
- Combine several unrelated words into a memorable phrase.
- Avoid personal information such as names, birthdays, company names, or addresses.
- Never reuse passwords across multiple accounts.
- Consider using a reputable password manager to generate and securely store unique passwords.

Avoid Using
- Common passwords such as
password,12345678, orqwerty - Predictable variations like
Password1! - Passwords containing your company or product name (for example,
liongard123) - Passwords that have appeared in known data breaches
What Happens if Your Password Doesn't Meet the Requirements?
If your password is too short, is commonly used, or has been exposed in a known data breach, you'll be prompted to choose a different password before it can be saved.
Following these guidelines helps ensure your Liongard account is protected by a password that is resistant to common attacks and aligns with current industry security standards.
